French Goverment will Regulate Online Gambling in 2010

Responsible Gambling Practice Charters are released as the French government gets set to regulate online gambling in 2010.

2010 is set to be an exciting year across the board, and what makes it even more exciting, and something to look forward to is that the the French government is set to regulate online gambling, albeit to a limited extent.

Unlike the UK whose UK Gambling Act of 2005 called for increase in land-based betting destinations, France will only open up and regulate the online gambling industry, thus hoping to alleviate the social issues of problem gambling and debt which the UK experienced as a result of the proliferation of land based venues.

Already online media companies such as "Geste" have released charters calling for responsible gaming practices to be implemented in this transition. These have been put forward in an effort to provide European online gambling operators with accepted standards to follow, ensuring that the French online gambling industry is viewed as a socially responsible and legitimate industry.

In spite of these measures, analysts and regulators will be keeping a close eye on the industry to determine its compliance with regulations and its efficiency in preventing problem and underage gambling and it can be sure that those not dealing with these issues seriously will be severely dealt with.

It will be interesting to see if France's method and the adoption of these charters by the online gambling sector will yield more positive results than their regulated predecessors, so watch this space...
